BADGE DAY for 2010, is Friday, 19th November Cross Country Competition Daniel Vuni and Jackson Mackenzie-Paige, both vision impaired students from Charles Campbell Secondary school have been chosen to compete in the Cross Counry Championships, being held in Queensland from August 20th - 23rd this year. We wish them all the best. Judo Lisa Pearce competed in the State Judo competition in May, At Hallett Cove, Competing against sighted person. Lisa came first in the women's open division, beating a women 2 belts higher and 20 Kilo's heavier than herself. well done Lisa Powerlifting Anthony Clarke and Lisa Pearce competed in the National Powerlifting Competition, in May, held at Mannum. Anthony achieving a 1st in the under 90 kilo division and Lisa also achieving a 1st place in the women's under 75 kilo division. Lisa also won the most outstanding lifter award for the Nationals. Northern Athletics club We are currently funding a trainer for the northern Athletics club, to assist 10 -15 blind and vision impaired persons in gym and athletics training, this is an ongoing event and is held at the RSB Gilles Plains gym on Saturday mornings. Lawn Bowls. Adelaide hosted the 31st National Blind Bowls Championships this year from the 13th to 23rd April, at Salisbury Bowling Club, Orange Avenue, Salisbury. Congratulations to the following Medal winners: Mens Singles: B2 division - Silver winner: B Cameron Ladies Singles: B4 Division - Silver Winner: R Arbon Mens Pairs: B2 Division - Gold Winners: N Cundy and B Cameron Ladies Pairs: B4 Division - Gold winners: M Koch and R Arbon Winner of the Marlene Ireland Certificate Encouragement Award: Des Warner Congratulations to all our Blind Lawn Bowlers who competed in the competition. Cricket Congratulations to Michael Zannis who was chosen to be part of the Team travelling to Barbados in the West Indies to compete in this international Blind Cricket competition. Cricketers from New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland also made up the team. The Competition went from 1st June until 28th June 2010. Tenpin Bowling Des Warner and Susan Earles travelled to Joondalup in Western Australia, to compete in the TBA Australian Disability Championships from the 29th - 4th June. . Richard Turner, Andrew Bernhardt and Matthew Burrows,travelled to Epping in Victoria to compete in the National Disability Tenpin Bowling Championships in June. Matthew Won a Silver medal in the B Grade Teams, Andrew Won a Bronze Medal in the C Grade Teams and Richard also won a bronze medal in the A Grade Teams. Well done boys. Swimming Congratulations to Kieran Murphy who recently competed in the Telstra Australian Swimming Championships, qualifying for seven events and achieving 5 personal best times. Kieran qualified for the 400m freestyle final and he is now ranked 6th in Australia. Well Done Kieran. Kieran also competed inthe Telstra Short Course Swimming Championships in Sydney in July, in his goal to be chosen for the paralympic swimming squad. Promotional DVD of Sport for Blind or Vision Impaired The Office for Recreation and Sport has financed the provision of a unique DVD that has been produced by the Blind Sporting Council. The purpose of the DVD is to promote community awareness of the ability for blind and vision impaired people of all ages to participate in active sports and acheive outstanding results and also to increase the awareness and encourage those persons not currently involved to become actively involved in a sport or recreation activity. We would like to thank the Office for Recreation and Sport for financing the production of the DVD and helping to making possible.
